Save the Tudor Rose - Stop the Killings - Take a Knee for GF

Date: Wed 08 Jul 2020
Time: 5 pm
Description:
Save the Tudor Rose - Stop the Killings - Take a Knee for George Floyd organised by Southall Resists and Hands Off Tudor Rose

The "Stop the killings: kneel for George Floyd" protests have been going on globally to show solidarity with the US anti-racism protests.

Ealing showed solidarity with the Black Lives Matter campaigns by turning their town halls purple for several nights.

Yet, it has decided to demolish the only black venue in West London to build a block of flats. That is not showing solidarity with the Black Lives Matter campaigns.

The decision or consultation to rename of Havelock Road to Guru Nanak road at this particular moment is not not showing solidarity with the Black Lives Matter campaigns either.

In 2019, the people of Southall, with support from Ealing Council, commemorated 40th anniversary of the killing of Blair Peach. it also remembered the killing of Gurdip Singh Chaggar, along with the sacrifices of Misty in Roots and the People Unite Musicians Cooperative.

Yet, only last week someone removed the Blair Peach, Gurdip Singh Chaggar and Misty Roots plaques from outside the Southall Town Hall.

"This is a desecration of Southall & the collective memory & history of struggle of the community to overcome racism. " - Cllr Peter Mason

"I'm very pleased Ealing Council will be replacing the plaques. Ensuring their swift replacement will show we stand up for diversity." Dr Onkar Sahota - GLA member.

Please join us to show support for the Tudor Rose and "Stop the Killings - Take a Knee for George Floyd" to to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter campaigns.
