Ealing Council’s seizes noisy neighbours stereo equipment

Wed 07 May 2008
Ealing Council’s noise team has seized stereo equipment from a noisy Hanwell resident.

Following complaints from residents about their noisy neighbour, a noise abatement notice was issued on the tenant in January 2008, which he breached a month later by continuing to play loud music.

Even after noise officers visited the property to make sure the resident understood the legal notice, a further two breaches followed. Officers then applied to the magistrates’ court for permission to seize the equipment.

Ealing Council’s noise team confiscated thousands of pounds worth of stereos, speakers and music decks from a property in Gifford Gardens, Hanwell, on Tuesday, 29 April.

Councillor Will Brooks, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: “It is unfair and inconsiderate to play music and make noise at such a level that it disrupts the lives of others.”

“ We keep the equipment for a month, and then if the problem persists we will consider taking this to court.”

If you suffer from noisy neighbours, report noise nuisance by calling: 020 8825 8111 from 8.30am-midnight on Monday – Friday or 020 8825 5000 from 11pm-4am on Friday and Saturday nights.
