A Southall takeaway shop where staff were filmed dumping trolley-loads of rubbish sacks on the pavement has been fined more than £1,520 by Ealing Magistrates Court.

Mohammed Aslam, director of Shahi Nan Kabab Limited, which runs the Shahi Nan Buffet on Southall High Street, pleaded guilty to eight offences of failing to prevent staff fly-tipping waste on the footpath.

The business was prosecuted after it ignored warnings not to dump waste illegally. Over the course of eight nights in November 2012, CCTV cameras recorded a man working at the takeaway, pushing a trolley full of rubbish bags along the high street before dumping them.

The company was fined £100 for each of the eight offences and ordered to pay Ealing Council’s costs of £705.90 along with a victim surcharge of £15 making a total of £1520.90.

Cabinet member for environment and transport, Bassam Mahfouz said: "We are cracking down on fly-tipping by businesses, particularly in this area and have already warned several traders. I hope this case serves as a warning to businesses that they risk being taken to court and a costly fine if they ignore such warnings."
