Demonstration to Save Our Children's Centres

Date: Wed 14 May 2025
Time: 3:30 - 5:30 pm
Description:
Residents from across Ealing will gather outside Perceval House, on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, from 3:30 PM onwards to stand up for the future of our children’s services.

Ealing Council plans to close or repurpose 13 of the borough’s 25 children's centres, leaving just 12 open. These vital centres support early development, family wellbeing, and protect vulnerable children.

This is a major loss for generations to come, and we need your voice.

These centres are more than just buildings—they are lifelines. They provide crucial support for families with young children, offering early years education, parenting support, health services, and safeguarding for vulnerable children.

The event will also provide a relaxed space for informal networking, giving participants the chance to connect with fellow creatives, community members, and potential collaborators in a supportive environment.

The council claims the proposed changes are meant to improve access and efficiency by shifting services to general community venues. However, the reality is that this plan represents a significant reduction in dedicated, accessible support for families who need it most.

If the cuts go ahead, many families may no longer be able to access the help they rely on. Vulnerable children and parents risk falling through the cracks.

These changes are being driven by budget pressures rather than by the actual needs of our communities. That’s why we are urging residents to speak out and show the council that these cuts are not acceptable

The Save Our Children's Centres campaign believe every child deserves the best possible start in life, and our children's centres are essential to making that happen.

This demonstration is a chance for us to come together as a community, to defend these vital services, and to demand that Ealing Council reconsider its decision.

They encourage everyone to sign the petition, visit our website for more information, and follow us on social media at @saveealingchildrenscentres.

Your voice matters. Join us on May 14 and help protect the future of Ealing’s families.

How often have Ealing Council dubbed closures as improvements to services?

Two points raised by the Green Party are:

Is it possible to improve early help – by closing 12 children’s centres, introducing cost savings and reducing staff capacity?

There needs to be very strong evidence that closures are the right decision as once closed children’s centres are very unlikely to be reopened.
