Southall residents are invited to attend a free "Community Safety Day" event to find out ways they can protect themselves and their property from theft and other criminal activity.

Ealing Council is coordinating the day which will see a wide range of crime prevention specialists on hand to offer advice to the Southall community on how they can best minimise the risk of falling victim to crime. Information stalls and demonstrations will be available during the event including representatives from:

• The Community Safety team
• Envirocrime department
• Police and Safer Neighbourhood Team
• London Fire Brigade
• Youth Services
• Southall Park Rangers
• Drug and alcohol outreach organisations.

Residents will be able to access information on a variety of crime prevention options including alley gating, as well as fire safety and controlled drinking zones. A ‘Beat Car Crime’ Roadshow will also be held during the day which will raise awareness about car crime and help people protect their vehicles from becoming a target. Residents will be able to have free anti-theft screws fitted to their car’s number plates and take home free tamper-proof disc holders.

Southall Community Safety Liaison Officer Kofi Nyameh said: “It is unfortunate that crime does exist in our community but the Southall Community Safety Day will provide people with advice and options about how they can protect themselves and their property. We need to work together to make theft as difficult as possible and I encourage all Southall residents to come along on Saturday so that we can combat criminal behaviour and make our community a safer place to live.”

The Southall Community Safety Day is a free event and will be held Saturday 7 July from 12-5pm at the Dominion Centre, 112 The Green, Southall UB1 4BQ. The ‘Beat Car Crime Roadshow’ will be held at the Featherstone car park from 12-3pm. For more information contact 020 8825 7600.
