Football and Fun with a serious message in Southall

Time: 12noon - 4pm
A fun day out with a serious message from the The Stroke Association.
Belly and Bollywood-style dancing workshops, face and henna painting, charity stands, jewellery and clothing stalls will be on offer at Featherstone Sports Centre.
In addition The Stroke Association, the only national charity solely concerned with combating stroke in people of all ages - is pitching a staff team against local teams in a charity football match.
Homaira Khan, Stroke Prevention Campaigns Officer at The Stroke Association says, "The purpose of the day is to encourage an active lifestyle and to show how easy it is to participate in something different.”
Each year over 150,000 people in the UK have a stroke - this is equivalent to someone having a stroke every five minutes. There are more than 900,000 people who have had a stroke living in England; around half of them are dependent on others for everyday activities.
Strokes can be prevented through lifestyle factors such as a healthy diet -particularly reducing salt intake, drinking alcohol in moderation, not smoking and taking regular exercise.
Homaira concludes: “People from the African Caribbean and South Asian communities are at higher risk of stroke, but many do not even know what a stroke is. The event will be an opportunity for people to come along and learn about stroke and what they can do to prevent themselves from being one of the 150,000 people in the UK who suffer a stroke each year."
