Spikes Bridge Park Orchard opening ceremony
Sun 10 Mar 2019The Mayor of Ealing Councillor Tejinder Dhami and Ealing Southall MP Virendra Sharma planted an orchard tree and later unveiled the ‘interpretation board’ for the Spikes Bridge Orchard.
Southall Broadway Councillor Jaskiran Chohan took active part in planting the orchard.
Dormers Wells ex-Councillor Ranjit Dheer and Greenford Broadway Councillor Harbhajan Kaur-Dheer were also present.
The Southall Orchard Project is a community led initiative aimed at planting orchards and fruiting hedges throughout Southall.
The aim is to have the town filled with a variety of fruit / nut trees and fruiting hedges which will provide free food for local people to enjoy. Southall Transition is working with Ealing Council and The Tree Council to achieve this.
Previous work
The project was officially opened by the Mayor of Ealing Cllr Harbhajan Kaur Dheer on 5th December 2015 in Southall Park, the first location for the planting of the community orchard. Ealing Southall MP Virendra Sharma who unveiled the ‘interpretation board’ and Dr Onkar Sahota (London Assembly) was present.
Phase 1 - On 5th March 2016 phase 1 of the Southall Orchard Project was successfully completed. The Southall Park Community Orchard was officially opened by The Mayor of Ealing Cllr Harbhajan Kaur Dheer.
Phase 2 - The Southall Recreation Ground Community Orchard was officially opened on Saturday 4 March 2017 by The Mayor of Ealing Cllr Dr. Patricia Walker.
Phase 3 - The Jubilee Park Community Orchard was officially opened by Councillor Simon Woodroofe, the Mayor of Ealing and Madam Mayor Mrs Valerie Woodroofe on Saturday 10 March 2018.
