Eid ul Adha 2021 in Southall
Sun 18 Jul 2021Saudi Arabia Supreme Court announced that Sunday 11 July 2021 is 1st of Zul-Hijja, Arafah would be on Monday, 19 July and Eid al-Adha is on Tuesday, 20 July 2021
Saudi Arabia started the last month of Dhu al-Qa‘dah after a reported sighting of the moon crescent after it was less than 6 hours old. This is NOT in line with scientific data provided by the Royal Observatory (London).
The London Central Mosque follows Saudi Arabia and others in the UK follow them. They state that the "The Islamic month is dependent on the actual sighting of the new moon by the naked eye and therefore can differ from the printed calendar sometimes."
The new moon crescent is ONLY visible with the naked eye AFTER 16 hours of a new moon. It visible with optical aids after 12 hours. Yet the Saudi announcements contradict this on many occasions. So, does The London Central Mosque follows its own rules or blindly follow Saudi Arabia?
These dubious moon crescent sightings meant the start of the current month and date of Eid-ul-Adha was UNLIKELY to be on the same day for everyone.
Even with the lifting of the coronavirus restrictions mosques will provide up to 6 Eid services for the attendees. They are still being asked to follow the current covid guidelines of wearing masks and bringing own prayer mats.
The Eid salah times are:
Jamia Masjid, Townsend Road | 5:35, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00, 10:00 and 11:30 |

The Eid prayers are not compulsory for Muslims but the 5 times daily prayers are.
On the days of Eid-ul-Adha millions of animals will be offered as Qurbani (sacrifice) through out the world. This is to show gratitude towards Allah (God) and to provide meat for the poor and needy.
It is the Sunnah (tradition) of the prophet Abraham (as) and is obligatory on adult Muslims who have sufficient means.
