Outdoor gyms will be opening in Southall parks

Wed 16 Feb 2022
Three new outdoor gyms will be opening in Southall parks this week.

This is part of “Let’s Go Southall” project that aims to help inactive residents become healthier and more active.

The funding is provided by Sport England and the project is controlled by Ealing Council. Local community groups, faith groups, charities, volunteers and a variety of service providers help deliver the project.

Research shows that a quarter of the population are inactive, meaning they do less than 30 minutes of exercise that gets them slightly out of breath each week. Those in lower paid jobs, woman, and those with disabilities are worse affected.

Southall has a high level of deprivation and higher levels of unemployment. It also has lower incomes than surrounding areas, as well as bigger households.

Residents need to ensure that these outdoor gyms, paid for by Sports England, are NOT a replacement for closure of other facilities by Ealing Council in Southall.

Outdoor gym will be opening in:

  • Manor House Grounds on Thursday 17 February 2022 at 4:30pm
  • Spikes Bridge Park on Sunday 20 February 2022 at 3:30 pm
  • Southall Recreation Grounds on Monday 21 February 2022 at 10am

Southall Recreation Grounds outdoor gym opening was originally planned for Friday 18 February 2022, but due to weather conditions it was decided to move it to Monday 21 February 2022.
