When will Southall celebrate Eid ul Fitr 2022?

Sat 30 Apr 2022
All of Southall and the UK will more than likely be celebrating Eid ul Fitr on the same day - Monday 2nd May 2022.

Most people are aware of the fact that the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. This means that Eid is decided upon the sighting of moon and therefore it is not practical to pick a date in advance.

But it is different this time. No one would be stupid enough to announce a moonsighting even before the new moon is born. This time, you can pick a date in advance. "Oh, we have to wait for a moonsighting" is just being silly.

The month of Ramadhan can be 29 or 30 days depending on the visibility of the moon.

Muslims throughout the world, look for a moonset just after sunset on the 29th day. If one is visible they will be celebrating Eid on the next day.

All of Southall, started the month on Ramadhan on the same day for the sake of unity. So, the question this time is “Will Eid be on Sunday or Monday?"

According to moonsighting.org,uk the new “the moon will be born on 30 April 2022 at 20:28 GMT/UT, but it will not be visible by the naked-eye anywhere in the UK to Morocco region (or anywhere in the whole world) on that date. However, on 1 May 2022, the moon may not be seen in the UK (by the naked eye) but it is likely to be seen in the West African countries, including Morocco (Dakhla). Hence, the month of Shawwal is most likely to start from 2 May 2022, InShaAllah”

Sighting the moon crescent is only possible in good weather after 16 hours of a new moon. Even the unreliable Saudi authorities would not be so stupid as to announce a moonsighting on Saturday evening, several hours before the new moon is born.

They will have to complete their last/30th fast on Sunday. That would make Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday 2nd May 2022. The 4 mosques of Southall will be celebrating Eid on Monday 2nd May 2022.

Saudi announcement around 4:20 pm UK time today was "The crescent has NOT been sighted in Saudi Arabia. #EidAlFitr will be celebrated on Monday 2nd May 2022."

Eid with reliable moonsightings with the naked eye

Ramadhan 2022 started with a dubious moonsighting from the Saudis. For those who started Ramadhan one day later, with a proper moonsighting, Eid-ul-Fitr could fall on Monday or Tuesday.

On Sunday 1st May 2022, "the moon may not be seen in the UK (by the naked eye) but it is likely to be seen in the West African countries, including Morocco (Dakhla)".

So Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be on Monday 2nd May 2022 for these groups.

The vast majority of Muslim in the UK will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday. The BBC, being a unreliable as the Saudis, will be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Tuesday.

Celebrating on Southall Broadway and disturbing the local residents at night is not the way to celebrate Eid-ul_Fitr. The proper place is with family and friends or the mosque.

Before the Eid prayer, a fitrana (charitable donation) must be given before the end of the month of Ramadan, for the love of Almighty. It is obligatory on every self-supporting adult Muslim who has food in excess of their needs. It is to provide food for the needy. The monetary value (of the food) is approximately £5. This amount needs to be paid for EVERY member of the household.

A lot of (lazy) people leave it to the last minute and hand over the money before the Eid prayers. There is is no way it can reach the poor people in time for Eid.

Do it online TODAY - give to any charity.

Eid Mubarak.
