Shaping Ealing Survey Results

How did Southall residents respond to the Shaping Ealing survey carried out by Ealing Council.

The Shaping Ealing survey sought to gather people’s views about their towns and communities, including about parks/green spaces, air quality, employment, community relations etc.

Over 10,600 responses were provided from across the borough and are summarised in the document produced by Ealing Council.

Nearly 7% of Southall’s population are in bad or very bad health making it the most deprived town in the borough

52% of jobs in Southall are classified as low pay jobs, the highest in the borough.

In 2018, the median house price in Southall was 12.5 times the average income of £31,200. Southall is the third most affordable town in Ealing. You ONLY need 3 to 4 working people to afford to buy ONE house.

The views of Southall residents should not surprise anyone.

13 positive statements were put to the residents of Southall. In 9 responses the residents were NEGATIVE. You don’t need to carry out a survey to tell you that because everyone knows that Ealing Council/councillors do not listen to the residents.

69% of Southall residents disagree that there is a good range of affordable housing.

62% of Southall residents disagree that the air they breathe is clean.

53% of Southall residents disagree that that there are good local jobs and employment opportunities.

66% disagree that the walking and cycling routes here are safe and attractive.

59% do not feel safe in Southall.

60% do not agree that the parks and open spaces here are pleasant, clean and safe

54% are not happy with the way the area is changing

46% do not agree that there are good local shops and leisure facilities

42% do not agree that there are good local facilities – schools, surgeries, libraries

The residents of Southall have spoken – once again.
Ealing Council is NOT listening.

Southall does NOT need a Southall Reset programme. It needs a Ealing Council Reset programme because the blame lies with Ealing Council and not the residents of Southall.

There were some positives but these had nothing to do with Ealing Council.

49% agreed that public transport here allows them to get where they need to go.

43% agreed that people from different backgrounds get on well together

39% felt that they have a sense of belonging here

36% agreed that they feel welcome here
