Mon 07 Nov 2022
Thousands of Sikhs celebrated the Parkash Ustav (Birthday) of Guru Nanak by holding the annual Southall Nagar Kirtan (procession) on Sunday 6 November 2022.

The year’s event celebrated the 553th anniversary of the birth of the founder of the Sikh religion, Guru Nanak.

The accurate rain forecasts for most of the day did not deter the thousands of people that usually comes from Southall and the neigbouring towns.

Worshippers gather at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara on Guru Nanak Road (formerly Havelock Road) in the morning.

The colourful procession proceeds along King Street, The Green, South Road, High Street, Green Drive and finishes at the Park Avenue Gurdwara.

As usual, there were lots of free food stalls all along the procession route.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Gary Malcolm tweeted: “At Southall's Nagar Kirtan earlier today. Despite the rain many people showed up to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Birthday.”
