Parking enforcement action on Southall Broadway

Sun 11 Dec 2022
Ealing Council Leader, Peter Mason, came to Southall to witness the sheer number of cars that park on the pavements of Southall Broadway.

The issue has been raised a lot of the times. Enforcement action does take place, we are told.

That is not true, according to people who regularly walk there. If it was true, then you would not find 5 to 10 cars parked on the pavement on most visits.

This is not a night time occurrence. Neither is an evening occurrence. It starts during the afternoon.

Neither is it just a parking issue. It promotes other anti-social behaviour. It can lead to sleepless nights for residents who live nearby. It increased drug dealing and makes it unsafe to walk on Southall Broadway at night.

On Thursday night, Ealing Council Leader Peter Mason and Cllr Deirdre Costigan spent an evening with Ealing Councils’s fly tipping, Parkguard and Parking enforcement teams in Southall to see them in action.

Cllr Mason said: "Don’t be selfish. Night time enforcement is increasing across the borough."

Joint patrols were carried by Ealing Council’s Parking Services, Parkguard (Community Safety Service Provider to Local Authorities and Police), and the local policing team from Lady Margaret ward and Dormers Wells ward.

They issued 80 Parking tickets and 12 tickets for littering/Fly tipping.

One male charged with possession of cannabis

Another male was in possession of cannabis and offensive weapon following a Stop and Search.

Councillor Mason added: "Park illegally on our roads and pavements = get fined. Pleased to see our stepped up enforcement action with @ealingMPS & @ealingparking having impact."

One local resident and business owner said: "These need to be taking place daily. Saw an old lady on a wheelchair struggling to cross on Thursday. Tried to assist but it was so difficult. I remember businesses requesting bollards when the ‘Southall Big Plan’ took place. Just shows that planning should be left to people who know the area."

Another resident said: "Any car parked on a PAVEMENT should be clamped and towed, sorry it’s a real bug bare with me. Pavements are not for cars. And parking enforcement is needed."

Another resident said: "Don’t think a poxy ticket means anything to someone driving a lambo."
