Southall Community Alliance AGM 2023
Sat 08 Jul 2023Traditionally the gathering provides an opportunity to hear about the work of the charity and their partners, as well as to stay informed about the progress and developments taking place in Southall.
They had a packed hall who listened to a report of their work and finances for the year 2022/23. The chair of SCA, Harsev Bains, welcomed everyone to the meeting and provided the context for the years achievements.
Canon Mark Poulson, an esteemed member of the Southall community and the event's host, extended a gracious welcome to all those in attendance.
The meeting was opened by a welcome from the Mayor of Ealing, Councillor Hitesh Tailor. He emphasized the significant role played by the SCA as a vital local collaborator in facilitating community initiatives and pursuing shared objectives, such as the Let's Go Southall project.
Sadly, out of the 16 Southall councillors, only Cllr John Martin attended and actively engaged with those present. The rest were too busy or could not be bothered to attend.
The Annual General Meeting welcomed Alex Gordon, President of RMT (National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers), as the distinguished Guest Speaker. Alex Gordon delivered a thought-provoking talk shedding light on the challenges posed by the cost of living crisis.
He passionately urged those in attendance to lend their support by signing the petition to "Save Ticket Offices". Highlighting the critical importance of ticket offices, he emphasized their role in ensuring public safety, particularly for disabled individuals, as well as prioritizing the safety of women. Recognizing the invaluable services provided by ticket offices, he called upon the audience to take action and join the cause for preserving these vital facilities.
The meeting hall offered dedicated space for information stalls, providing an opportunity for attendees to explore and engage with various informational displays.
At the end of the nigh there was some delicious food that was served with great organisation by their wonderful colleagues from the Voice of Women organisation. Many thanks to Mrs. Surinder Kaur Kenth, the Director of Voice of Women, and all the hard-working Voice of Women volunteers for their invaluable contributions.
