An opportunity to shape Southall's future

Wed 30 Aug 2023
You have an opportunity to shape Southall's future and share your local area priorities.

Ealing Council is currently in the process of reconsidering the most effective approach to communicate with residents about their towns and neighbourhoods.

The objective is to involve local residents in the decision-making process concerning their living areas. After all, the people who live there are the most knowledgeable about what works in their specific location.

The council aims to enable widespread participation in discussing local areas. Conversations can vary based on preferences and circumstances.

If you're interested in community involvement, join council events nearby or fill out an online survey by 24 September 2023. For a printed survey copy, email dosomethinggood@ealing.gov.uk.

Councillor Polly Knewstub, cabinet member for thriving communities, said: "The Ealing spirit and strength of our communities really shone through in our most recent residents’ survey, when a whopping 79% of residents agreed that people in their local area work together to improve it."

"We want to harness some of that, and change the way the council interacts with local people to improve our borough. That’s why it’s so important to let us know what would enable you to get involved."

Councillor Peter Mason, Leader of Ealing Council, said: "We know that for some people, evening meetings in crowded (or not so crowded!) halls are not an appealing or convenient way to get involved with local decisions. So we are trying something new, and we really want to hear from local people – the experts – about what would help you get involved."

"All of this is so we can do something about the things that matter to people in each of our seven towns, so please do help us understand how we can support you to be part of the conversation."

Throughout the upcoming fall and winter, the council will employ survey data and resident conversations to create and test ideas with communities. The aim is to determine effective strategies for moulding your towns according to your desires.

One resident asked "Is this the same 'Shaping Ealing' survey that closed last year?

Or is it a new one?"
