Flying Squad crackdown on parcel theft in Southall

Flying Squad detectives have charged three men in connection with the theft of parcels from a delivery van in Southall.

The Metropolitan Police has seen a surge in reports of robberies involving delivery vans in the lead-up to Christmas.

To address the issue, a dedicated operation led by the Flying Squad has been established, with officers actively working to identify and apprehend those involved.

On Thursday, 7th December 2023, around 09:40hrs, an intelligence-led operation was conducted in Southall.

During the operation, officers witnessed a group of three men threatening a delivery driver and stealing parcels from the back of the van. One of the men was reportedly armed with a crowbar

Law enforcement recovered a total of 10 parcels, valued at approximately £5,000. The three suspects were arrested, taken into custody, and later charged with robbery.

They were scheduled to appear in court on 8th December 2023.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Mather, from the Met's Flying Squad, said: "We have seen an increase in reports of robberies involving delivery vans over the past few weeks and some of these have resulted in drivers being assaulted."

"Robbery always has a significant impact on victims, but especially so in the run up to Christmas, when so many people are making online orders."

"I am pleased we have been able to arrest and charge three people as part of our dedicated operation and we will continue to work proactively to identify offenders."
