High School & Councillors visit Western Road Urban Garden

Sun 31 Dec 2023
The Southall Community Alliance (SCA) hosted a double visit to their Western Road Urban Garden on Monday 18th December 2023.

They welcomed a group of year eight pupils from Greenford High School and two senior Ealing councillors.

Ealing Council leader, Cllr Peter Mason, and deputy leader, Cllr Deirdre Costigan, were highly impressed with the site and the efforts of the pupils in planting some seeds and bulbs.

Their aspiration is that the Western Road Urban Garden will be actively used by school children in the future as they learn about biodiversity and plant cultivation.

The Green Quarter (Berkeley Group) has provided a £2500 to the Western Road Urban Garden project that is managed by the Southall Community Alliance.

The money will be used for new paths, providing safe access for children and elderly around the site. This is especially crucial during this time of the year when wet and icy conditions pose a safety hazard.

With the implementation of the new paths, access to the site will be significantly enhanced and much safer.

The money from The Green Quarter (Berkeley Group) does not go into the SCA coffers. Neither can the SCA refuse money for its projects (to benefits residents) from sources that Ealing Council and councillors endorse.

The Western Road Urban Garden is the fifth addition to the newly established community growing spaces in Ealing.

It is primarily due to hard work put in by a few members of the local community/organisations. Ealing Council has merely assisted them in their efforts.
