Celebrating Green Flag Status in Southall

Mon 05 Aug 2024
Ealing Council and local groups have been awarded prestigious Green Flags for 26 parks and open spaces, matching last year's highest achievement for the borough.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag awards recognize and reward the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag signifies that the park meets high standards, is beautifully maintained, and offers excellent facilities.

A Green Flag does not necessarily indicate that a park is family-friendly. It primarily assesses the park's visual appeal at a specific time. The family-friendly atmosphere can vary depending on the time of day.

Councillor Peter Mason, leader of the council, celebrated with Let’s Go Southall members who enjoy free exercise sessions at the outdoor gym in Green-flag winning Southall Park.

He said: "Parks and open spaces are vital for our health and wellbeing and play a vital role in tackling climate change. That’s why we are committed to opening 10 more parks and rewilding 800,00 square metres in the coming years – the first of which, Pear Tree Park, opened over a week ago."

Councillor Blerina Hashani, the council’s cabinet member for thriving communities, added: "We are thrilled to have so many Green Flag parks in our borough again this year. A massive thank you to the Greener Ealing team and all the volunteers who help maintain the high standard of our award-winning parks, allowing everyone to enjoy their beauty year in and year out."
