Southall Independence day Road Closures 2024

Southall Broadway (A4020 Uxbridge Road) will be CLOSED to ALL traffic.
Take alternative routes.
No cars will be permitted on Southall Broadway or side roads, except for residents who are able to provide valid identification showing they live inside the enclosed area. Access to Southall Broadway is ONLY via the side roads i.e Beaconsfield Road.
This is in the interest of public safety due to large numbers expected on multiple Independence Days.
Pakistan Independence Day is observed annually on 14 August and a national holiday in Pakistan. It commemorates the day when Pakistan achieved independence from British rule. This year they will be celebrating 77 years of Independence.
India Independence Day is observed annually on 15 August and a national holiday in India. It commemorates the day when India achieved independence from British rule. This year they will be celebrating 77 years of Independence.
Afghan Independence Day is observed annually on 19 August and a national holiday in Afghanistan. It commemorates the day when Afghanistan achieved independence from British rule.
There road closures. from 1600 hours until late at night, will occur on the following dates:
- Sunday 14 August 2024 - Pakistan
- Monday 15 August 2024 - India
- Friday 19 August 2024 - Afghanistan
The decision to implement road closures on these dates around Southall Broadway was taken by the Police and Ealing Council. It was taken in the interest of public safety due to the high footfall and number of vehicles expected on various Independence Days which are celebrated on these dates.
Road closures will be implemented at both ends of The Broadway, and at junctions with all access road leading towards The Broadway including Beaconsfield Road, Shackleton Road, North Avenue and Carlyle Avenue.
Access to these roads and all side roads off The Broadway will only be permitted to residents with valid identification confirming address or cars registered at the relevant address within the footprint.
The Southall Safer Neighbourhood team have engaged with the local businesses on the ward to inform them on expectations for upcoming independence days so everyone can enjoy the festivities safely.
The Southall SNT teams and local partners will be on the streets supporting the local community during the Independence Days.
You will see an increased policing presence, supported by community volunteers who represent the local places of worship and other key community groups.
The Police will also be supported by Ealing Council, Trading Standards and the anti-social Behaviour and Licensing Teams to ensure everyone's safety during the celebrations.
Please be aware that any vehicles not complying will be ticketed and removed.
