Natalie Shotter: Man Convicted of rape and manslaughter
Sat 19 Oct 2024Following a detailed investigation by the Metropolitan Police, Iidow was found guilty on 18 October 2024. He will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, 13 December 2024.
Natalie Shotter’s body was discovered by a passerby on a bench in Southall Park on 16 July 2021.
Police inquiries revealed that Natalie had been socialising with friends in Southall before falling unconscious on a bench in Southall Park.
A post-mortem examination on Sunday, 18 July 2021 was unable to established cause of death.
Mohamed Lidow, 34, of no fixed address was apprehended in connection with the incident on 4 August 2021.
He was charged with the rape and manslaughter on 21 December 2021 and appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Friday, 12 January 2024.
The victim, Natalie Shotter, suffered a fatal heart attack during a sexual assault that lasted 15 minute.
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, from Specialist Crime South who led the investigation, said: "Iidow’s predatory attack on Natalie was disturbing and shocking."
"This man drove to the park that night and took advantage of a vulnerable woman who should have been safe. Even after his arrest, Iidow attempted to claim that his actions were consensual."
"This case has deeply affected those involved, due to its rarity and tragic details."
"We needed to prove Natalie’s death was caused by being raped and that involved diligent work using experts in this field to charge and now convict Iidow."
"I commend the strength of Natalie’s friends and family who have had to listen to these details throughout the trial. Iidow is now facing a long term of imprisonment."
Natalie, a 37-year-old mother of three had two teenage sons and an 18-month-old daughter at the time of death.
