Southall building contractor banned for covid loan fraud and ordered to repay loan
Tue 01 Jul 2025
In late 2020, Tahir Haq, director of Southall?based Integral Maintenance Team Ltd, applied for a £50,000 Bounce Back Loan by declaring a turnover of £212,800. In reality, the company’s bank records for 2019 show receipts of just £12,888—entitling it to barely over £3,000 under the scheme.
Investigators discovered that significant portions of the loan were withdrawn as cash or sent overseas, including payments to a housing project in Pakistan that had no demonstrable business link to Integral Maintenance Team.
High Court ruling and repayment order
At a hearing on 10 June, Mr. Justice Saini banned Mr Haq from serving as a director until 2036. He must also return the £46,778 he was not entitled to, plus £4,078 in interest and £8,107 in costs. The disqualification took effect on 1 July 2025.
Kevin Read, Chief Investigator at the Insolvency Service, commented:
“Tahir Haq overstated his company’s turnover by almost £200,000 to secure the maximum Bounce Back loan available.”“Our investigation revealed he used some of this money for personal purposes, including payments to a housing scheme in Pakistan.”
“The 11 year disqualification and requirement to repay all the money he was never entitled to demonstrates our commitment to holding directors financially accountable when they misuse Covid support schemes.”
Integral Maintenance Team Ltd, incorporated in July 2018 and operating in building completion and road freight, entered liquidation in November 2021. Under the court order, Mr Haq is barred from promoting, forming, or managing any company without the court’s permission.
