New £29m building planned for Villiers High School in Southal
Fri 10 Apr 2026
The £29.3 million project will see the replacement of an ageing 1960s building with a new three-storey, energy-efficient facility. Once completed, the building will provide 22 classrooms, 11 science laboratories and six ICT and media suites, along with staff and student welfare areas.
The development will also feature a rooftop garden and outdoor learning space, aimed at enhancing both education and wellbeing. Sustainability is a key focus of the project, with plans to include air source heat pumps, solar panels and rainwater collection systems to reduce environmental impact and energy use.
Construction is expected to finish by the end of 2027. The new facilities are intended to support the school’s growing population and improve the overall learning environment.
Headteacher Christopher Richards said the project marks an important step forward for the school, adding that the new building will help meet the needs of both current and future students.
As part of the construction programme, a range of local employment and training opportunities are also expected to be created, including apprenticeships, work placements and skills development initiatives in partnership with local organisations.
The redevelopment reflects wider changes in the Southall area, with increasing demand for school places linked to ongoing growth and regeneration.
