New figures show a significant gap in the number of years people can expect to live in good health across Ealing, with several areas of Southall recording some of the borough’s lowest estimates.

The latest healthy life expectancy figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show substantial differences between local areas of Ealing.

The figures cover the period 2022 to 2024 and were released by the ONS on 19 February 2026. Healthy life expectancy measures the estimated number of years people can expect to live in good general health.

Several areas of Southall feature towards the lower end of the figures for Ealing. The estimates include 61.8 years for men in Southall Green West and 61.8 years for women in Southall West.

Other Southall areas also record relatively low healthy life expectancy compared with parts of the borough where residents are expected to spend considerably longer in good health.

Across Ealing, the figures show a sizeable local variation. For example, healthy life expectancy for men is estimated at around 71.9 years in Northfields, while the highest estimate for women is around 76.2 years in Bedford Park.

The figures highlight the difference between healthy life expectancy and overall life expectancy. A person may live into their late 70s, 80s or beyond while spending a significant number of years experiencing poorer health.

The ONS figures are statistical estimates based on patterns of health and mortality rather than predictions about the health of any particular individual. The latest UK-wide figures show healthy life expectancy at birth of 60.7 years for males and 60.9 years for females in 2022–2024.

The data also highlights wider health inequalities. The ONS reported that healthy life expectancy in the UK fell compared with the previous non-overlapping period of 2019–2021, decreasing by 1.8 years for males and 2.5 years for females.
