Southall Parking problem

Tue 04 Dec 2007
Parking in Parking bays on Southall Broadway can get you a penalty ticket.

The standard week-day parking restrictions on the streets around Southall Broadway apply between 10 am and 8pm. These apply to resident parking bays and pay & display areas. But on Southall Broadway, the pay & display only operates between 9.30 pm and 4 pm.

Parking outside these times will get motorists a penalty ticket.

One Slough resident with a severely disabled daughter could not understand why he had been given such a penalty ticket.

Any protestations that you have a valid parking ticket from the “dumb” parking machine will fall on deaf ears. This is demonstrated by Ealing Councilor Phil Taylor view that “the sign was entirely clear - no parking after 4pm, no ifs, no buts.”

Getting a ticket from a traffic warden is one thing, but having some council employee permanently parked in an unmarked van ready to fine unsuspecting motorist is what really infuriates local businesses.

They point out that the people most affected are the elderly and those Asian motorists whose reading skills are not that good.
