New regulations introduced under the Housing Act (2004), that came into effect last year, mean people must obtain a license if several people are living independently in the same house. Exceptions are people in a relationship or in the same family group. Failure to licence the houses can result in a fine of up to £20.000.
The purpose of the law is to protect tenants and raise the standard of rental accommodation. Ealing Council will take enforcement action against those thought to be breaching the legislation. If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
