Poor maternity services at Ealing Hospital
Sat 26 Jan 2008Ealing Hospital is providing poor maternity services according to the 2007 Maternity Services Review.
The overal assesment of the 148 organisations in England was as follows:
The results of the most comprehensive review of maternity services ever carried out (in 2007) have just been released.
- - Best performing – 38 – 26%
- - Better performing – 47 – 32%
- - Fair performing – 32 – 22%
- - Least well performing – 31 – 21%
Trusts in the north of England performed relatively well, while trusts in London performed poorly.
None of Londons 27 maternity units came in the “best” category. Most of them, 19 out of 27, came in the “least well performing” category.
Ealing Hospital NHS Trust, which runs Ealing Hospital in Southall, was among the “least well performing”.
It achieved 1 mark out of a possible 5 in 4 of the 25 areas measured. These areas were:- Average time between first making contact and booking appointment
- Women offered an informed choice for screening tests
- Integration of support workers
- Delivery of hospital based antenatal care
