According to the National Audit Office the £20 billion GP contract which cost £1.76 billion more than expected was not a good deal. GP practices are getting a lot more money for working less than before.
The First Great Western Rail company was fined £29 million for not tackling overcrowded and late running trains as well as cancellations.
National Grid was fined £41.6m by the energy regulator Ofgem for abusing “its dominance in the domestic gas metering market, restricting competition and harming consumers”.
Network Rail was fined £14 million (tax payer’s money going back to the government for something else) in the morning for passengers suffering “serious and unacceptable disruption” around the Xmas period. Yet, at noon the Network Rail boss was being knighted by the Queen!
The London Child Poverty Commission report states that 4 out of 10 children in London live below the poverty line – household income is less than 60 per cent of national median.
