Big Brother is watching you motorists
Sun 02 Mar 2008In 26 roads in Southall, the Council already uses CCTV cameras to enforce bus lanes, box junctions, banned turns, no entry, weight limits and restricted routes.
Drivers are being given advance notice that Ealing Council will use CCTV cameras to issue tickets to people parking illegally in a further 20 roads in Southall.
From March 31, the Council will now also use CCTV to enforce crossings and associated zig-zags, yellow lines and parking on footpaths.
This new approach by Ealing Council will ensure a lot more unsuspecting motorists are trapped to generate more revenue. The CCTV camera operatives will blindly interpret the law and issue tickets without any consideration.
Cameras will initially be used in hotspot areas where residents have complained about illegal parking.
Starting on March 3, dummy tickets will be issued for two weeks in the newly enforced locations. Enforcement will then cease for two weeks, to allow people who parked illegally to be sent warning notices. Enforcement will then begin for real from March 31.
The Council will be using its 25 existing cameras which monitor bus lanes, its 12 CCTV vans and 19 rapid deployment cameras which can be attached to lampposts and buildings in the borough.
The penalty for being caught on camera parking incorrectly will be £100– or £50 if the fine is paid within 14 days.
