How would you spend £1 million?

Wed 21 May 2008
Ealing Council is reminding youngsters that there are just over two weeks left for them to have their say on how £1 million should be spent on improving facilities for young people in the borough.

Surveys have been sent to the borough’s schools inviting pupils to share their views on how Ealing Council’s new Youth Fund should be spent.

Focus groups have been set up in schools across the borough to give councillors and young people the chance to get together and discuss their ideas.

The money to improve facilities was allocated by Ealing Council after the residents’ survey showed increasing numbers of people think there should be more on offer for young people.

The borough’s youth forum, Ealing Youth Action, is also in touch with existing youth clubs and groups to ask for their views. An e-survey can be completed online at www.youngealing.co.uk

Councillor Ian Gibb, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: It’s important that young people get to share their views as the money is there to improve facilities for them. “

”They are the ones who will be benefiting from the cash so we want to hear what they really think about how it should be spent.”

Questionnaires should be returned by 5 June 2008. The consultation will be completed in July and a shortlist of ideas will be submitted to the Cabinet later this summer.

The approved projects could get underway as early as August 2008, with most work due for completion by March next year.
