Official opening of Northala Fields
Mon 22 Sep 2008He raised the green flag which was given to the park by the Civic Trust as a mark of excellence even though it has not been open for long.
In November 2007, the former Mayor, Councillor Mrs Hazel Ware, opened the playground, in Dolphin Road, as part of the Northala Fields development.
Northala Fields lies within the Northolt and Greenford Countryside Park. It covers an area of approximately 45 acres to the south of the A40 in Greenford, between Kensington Road and Church Road (Target roundabout).
Northala Fields opened to the public in spring 2008 and is a significant park development in London for many years. In 2000, Ealing Council decided to transform derelict land that was once Kensington and Chelsea's Playing Fields.
Since August 2004 waste from the original Wembley Stadium the new White City shopping centre were used to create the new park. This was to create large conical earth mounds along the A40 to help reduce noise pollution and form a unique landmark. The tallest of these mounds reach up to 26m above ground level.
The Northala Fields project has transformed a disused playing field site into an eye-catching landmark, new habitats for wildlife and a range of recreational facilities. If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
