Muslim graves vandalised in Southall

Sun 28 Sep 2008
With only a few days to go before the Muslim community celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, some sick individuals have vandalised over 40 Muslims graves.

Only the graves of Muslim were vandalised in the Hortus Cemetery on Merrick Road, Southall. Non Muslim graves were not touched.

The local imams urged people to remain calm and let the Police carry out a thorough investigation.

Jumping to conclusions can play into the hands of extremists who commit such acts and place the blame on others, to stir up hatred among other communities.

Furthermore, you cannot blame a whole community for the acts of an individual or a group of individuals.

Update:
All the graves that were attacked were situated in the Muslim area of the graveyard.

The few Christian headstones that were overturned was the work of the Council and was carried out for safety reasons.
