Villiers Silly School Rules
Wed 15 Oct 2008Yet, it is also extremely naïve of them to introduce new rules without consulting the children, parents or responsible and representative members of the community.
For a Muslim female, the headscarf is not merely a covering above the neck. It is also supposed to cover the shoulders and the chest.
For the school to say that a Muslim headscarf can be worn and then also state that the shirt collar and the tie must be visible is extremely daft.
Firstly, this contradicts the rule that the Muslim headscarf can be worn. Secondly, if the scarf is placed inside the shirt collar then it will restrict the air flow around the neck, make it difficult to concentrate during lessons and seems an obvious health hazard.
The schools excuse that it is not a new rule but an old one being enforced now is totally absurd.
Why introduce or enforce it now?
What is the problem with the wearing the headscarf?
The only problem, any sensible person can see, is this absurd rule.
Lots of parents and children have been complaining about these silly rules and they want this matter "to be addressed firmly and to a satisfactory conclusion."
Hambrough Primary School also sent out a totally absurd letter to Muslim parents. Their children were given the option of taking a day off for Eid, but only if they booked it in advance.
Most people are aware of the fact that the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. This means that Eid is decided upon the sighting of moon and therefore it is not practical to pick a date in advance.
Yet the school which has a large Muslim population and teaches these facts in its Religious Education studies is totally unaware of this fact.If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
