Nagar Kirtan in Southall
Sun 26 Oct 2008Today thousands of Sikhs in Southall took part in the annual Nagar Kirtan (procession) celebrating the Parkash Ustav (Birthday) of Guru Nanak.
The procession commences at noon from the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Havelock Road, Southall - the largest Sikh temple in Europe.
It then proceeds through King Street, South Road, High Street, Uxbridge Rd and Green Drive.
It finishes at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, Park Avenue, Southall before 4 pm.
All along the route, there are stalls along the way offering free food and drink to all. Even the car drivers passing through are given food parcels.
Once again, the weather was wet but not cold. Thousands of people, young and old, turned up to join in celebrations.
The buses through southall are re-routed for the main part of the day. If you are not careful, you can end up elsewhere. Car drivers also face delays and rerouting. The usual advice is to avoid driving in the area.If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
