Illegal Box junctions removed in Southall

Tue 02 Dec 2008
The 4 illegal box junctions that Ealing Council decided not to enforce any more have been removed.

The Department of Transport advised on 20th June that they would not authorise the use of box junctions in 6 locations, 4 of them in Southall. However this information was not shared within Ealing Council until last week.

It then announced that it will refund anyone issued with a ticket since 20th June in line with the Department of Transports guidance.

Rather than reduce the box junction to T-junction to comply with the Department of Transports regulations, Ealing Council has completely removed the junction markings.

If it decides not have any junctions there, then it is becomes obvious that their sole purpose was to generate revenue from them and nothing to do with smooth flow of traffic.

If it decides to introduce T junctions in the place of the box junctions then it would have wasted money by having them removed and then repainted.

Either way, it is nothing to be proud of. This only shows that the Council is not delivering on "value for money", one of its key priorities, by not ensuring cost effective services.

The four junctions were in very close proximity to each other.
