Southall Manor House Grounds could win £400,000

Tue 06 Jan 2009
Southall residents can this month vote for Southall Manor House Grounds and help it to win up to £400,000 for improvements as part of the Help a London Park scheme.

The Mayor of London is giving ten grants of up to £400,000 to make the winning parks cleaner, safer, greener, and nicer places to visit. Only London's most needy parks are eligible to enter.

London has been divided into five sub-regions. The winners will be the top two parks in each sub-region.

Two parks in the London Borough of Ealing will be competing with 7 others parks in the neighbouring boroughs. Across the whole of London a total of 47 parks have been short-listed.

Ealing Council is asking residents to vote for Southall Manor House Grounds and Brent River Park in Hanwell. The parks were selected after consultation with residents and community groups.

The money would be used for landscaping, planting, better wildlife habitats, new litter-bins and benches, along with improvements to buildings in the parks.

A grant for Southall Manor House Grounds, a small historic park in Southall, will help to:
  • develop an Elizabethan garden around the manor house
  • restore the derelict pool and fountain
  • create a wild flower meadow and community orchard
  • develop a 'global' garden representing the cultural diversity of the area.
  • improve facilities for children and young people.

It needs your vote to be in with a chance to win the money and improve the facilities.

You can vote online at www.london.gov.uk/parksvote or text PARKS followed by your full postcode to 62967 (e.g. PARKS UB2 4BN).

Please note: the later method will register a vote for the nearest nominated park to your home within the borough. Texts cost 10p plus your standard network rate.
