Ealing Southall opposed to Heathrow expansion
Sun 18 Jan 2009Council Leader Jason Stacey said that "the vast majority of residents oppose the further expansion of Heathrow."
"Many are extremely concerned by increased flights and the additional noise these will bring, and this expansion will have a detrimental impact on all our lives."
He said that Ealing Council "will continue to fight the proposals."
Virendra Sharma, MP of Ealing Southall, also opposed the expansion.
His earlier stated objections were that the expansion would make "our part of West London even more congested and polluted than ever. This will also result in the destruction of over 750 homes including the entire village of Sipson."
"The number of schools around the airport where children would experience noise of about 63 decibels – designated as a nuisance – would rise from 14 to 20."
"One such school is Featherstone Primary in Southall, where if the third runway is built, planes will fly over every 90 seconds causing such a noise that teaching and learning will become virtually impossible."
The new flight paths over Southall and Greenford will cause noise nuisance for the first time for hundreds of residents. If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
