Good for Greenford enters third phase

Fri 13 Feb 2009
Work to transform Greenford town centre as part of a multi-million pound improvement scheme has just entered its third phase.

The £5.1 million Good for Greenford proposals aim to transform Greenford and create a shopping and business friendly centre.

The works along The Broadway are due for completion by the end of April.

There are six phases, and phase three works include:

  • pavement resurfacing
  • new street furniture and street lighting
  • new loading and parking bays
  • improved pedestrian crossing points on the Broadway and side roads
  • raising the junction of Windmill Lane and the Broadway to improve pedestrian accessibility and reduce vehicle speeds

Council Leader, Councillor Jason Stacey, said: "The Council has invested more than £3million into this project as part of an overall £15million regeneration of the borough."

"I am confident that Good for Greenford will bring huge overall benefits to the area. The scheme will improve safety for all road users as well as, among other things, introducing new business and shopping opportunities."

"This is a big project and there will be some disruption so I would like to thank everyone for their patience and support during this time."

Works on the corner of the Broadway and Oldfield Lane, which were initially part of phase three, will take place once the planning application from Tesco has been decided.

The Southall Regeneration budget is only £1.9 million over 3 years.
