Congestion relief on its way for motorists?
Sat 18 Apr 2009Improvements will be made to those junctions and local roads where congestion is an issue.
This was the result of last year’s Residents’ Survey which indicated that traffic congestion remains one of the highest concerns in the borough.
After extensive consultation during February and March, a list of priority congestion locations in the borough has been identified.
Various ways to improve the sites will now be investigated and carried out, including:- Removal of signs and changes to signals, such as signal timing and additional turning arrows
- Changes to waiting or loading parking restrictions
- Improvements to road markings and kerb works
- Changes to bus lanes and/or bus stops
- Pavement parking
Councillor David Millican, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Transport said: “ "Many of the congestion issues around Ealing are caused by the junctions rather than the roads themselves."
"It tends to be the actual capacity of the junctions that causes the build up of traffic. Now that we have identified the priority areas and junctions in the borough, we can investigate what types of schemes will best provide congestion relief and then get the works underway."
"By first identifying where congestion is a major issue, we can now take a holistic approach by considering a wide range of options to improve each location."
Southall Broadway (and all connected major roads) is a very old, well known serious congestion area. It if takes this long for the Council to identify it, how long will it takes to improve it?
This assumes that Ealing Council has identified it as a congestion problem. If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
