Ealing appoints new Mayor
Fri 22 May 2009Councillor Barbara Yerolemou, who has been a member of the Council since May 1990, was elected by fellow councillors as the new Mayor for Ealing. She takes over from Councillor Ian Green.
The new Mayor will be assisted in her duties by Councillor John Ross, who she appointed as her deputy.
The Mayor’s official charities will be Ealing Mencap and all the borough’s divisions of St John Ambulance.
Ealing Mencap needs funds to rebuild the Enterprise Lodge in Perivale, which is used for people with learning disabilities and their carers.
The charity has already raised more than £830,000 and Councillor Yerolemou is hoping to assist the charity in getting closer to their £1.5million fundraising target.
The Mayor is President of the Ealing branch of St John Ambulance. She will be raising funds to provide new equipment for all five local branches of the charity.
Councillor Yerolemou said: "I'm delighted to have been appointed as Mayor. It's a great honour and I am very much looking forward to starting my official duties."
"I have chosen two very worthy charities which I have been a supporter of for a long time. I hope I will be able to raise much needed funds for them over the course of the year and raise awareness of their excellent work in the local area."If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
