Southall’s Dreams Foods is closed down

Thu 02 Jul 2009
A squalid sandwich manufacturer has been closed down after Ealing Council health inspectors discovered filthy working conditions and out of date food.

Dreams Foods Ltd, in Witley Gardens, Southall, was forced to close after council officers served a notice on the company.

Regulatory Services officers obtained a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 25 June to ensure it remains closed until it meets cleanliness and hygiene standards.

The company produces thousands of sandwiches and rolls every day, which are delivered across London and the south-east.

Revolting conditions revealed during inspection included:

  • out of date food in chillers
  • dirty staff toilets
  • filthy floors
  • dirty sinks and taps
  • grimy packaging machines
  • rusty blades on meat and cheese slicer

Councillor Vlod Barchuk, Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, said: "It’s outrageous that this company thought it was acceptable to produce food in such filthy surroundings."

"It posed a serious risk to people’s health and if this company wants to do business in the area again it will have to clean up its act."
