Greenfields Children’s Centre opens in Southall

Sun 11 Oct 2009
An innovative children’s centre with its own mini golf course and clubhouse has opened in Southall.

Ealing Council Leader Jason Stacey joined film producer Lord David Puttnum and Ealing Mayor Barbara Yerolemou to formally launch the Greenfields Children’s Centre in Southall.

The centre provides day care and nursery education for children up to five years of age, offering unique facilities to stimulate and engage youngsters.

Apart from the mini golf course – a fun way to promote social interaction and motor skill development – the centre has exotic gardens, a Gothic-style tree house, toy library and sensory room.

A full range of family support services are also provided on site including parenting classes, cooking lessons, IT support and access to health professionals such as psychologists, physiotherapists, dieticians and speech therapists.

Speaking at the launch event, Councillor Stacey said: "Greenfields is an exciting addition to the borough’s growing network of children’s centres. It has been designed in consultation with children, parents and staff and the result is an imaginative and engaging centre that will help give local children a great start in life."

Head of Greenfields Children’s Centre, June McHugh, said: "I believe that providing children with the best possible environment inspires and empowers them for the rest of their lives. The children, families and staff think it is an amazing building – exciting, stimulating to the senses and a lovely place to be."

Greenfields Children’s Centre is located on Recreation Road and caters for up to 96 three to four year olds, eight babies and 22 toddlers for nursery and daycare. The centre also offers a range of support services to children under five and their families in the local community.

It was built with funding from the Government’s Department of Children, Schools and Families and developed as part of a major children’s centre construction programme in Ealing.
