The President of the Pakistan Olympic association, Gen (Retd) Syed Arif Hasan visited Southall on Thursday afternoon to inspect sites and training facilities.

The initiative to host Team Pakistan in Southall is led by community leader Dalawar Majid Chaudhry.

Mr Chaudhry said "We have the capability, the community spirit and support, the vibrant cultural benefits and above all the cuisine, to host Team Pakistan."

Later in the evening a press conference was held at Chaudhry’s TKC restaurant on Southall Broadway.

Members of the community including Ealing Southall MP Virendra Sharma, local councillors and Ealing Council representatives were present at the special meeting.

Speeches were heard from Ealing Southall MP Virendra Sharma, an Olympic Committee representative, Gen (Retd) Syed Arif Hasan and Dalawar Chaudhry.

Southall would be a "home away from home" for Tem Pakistan.

Special guest of honour at the event was Southall’s "Role Model" boxer Amir Khan (WBA World light-welterweight champion).

He was, as usual, more than happy to sign autographs and be photographed with his fans.
