The fifth British Curry Awards ceremony took place in central London on Tuesday night. The chief guest was David Cameron, leader of the Conservative Party.

The family run Brilliant Restaurant on Western Road, Southall was named among the country’s nine best restaurants at the prestigious British Curry Awards.

The biggest event in the curry calendar was attended by more than 1,600 restauranteurs, politicians, guests and celebrities.

Sir Trevor McDonald hosted the awards ceremony in the Battersea Park’s Evolution centreon Tuesday 3rd November 2009.

The 9 regional winners were chosen from a 100-strong shortlist.

The Brilliant Restaurant won the award as the best in the London Suburbs for the third year running.

The founder and organiser of the event Enam Ali appealed for help from politicians to help solve a skills shortage that is damaging the curry restaurant industry. "We are not looking for favours, but fairness and common sense," he said
