£6 million to help Ealing residents beat the crunch
Tue 01 Dec 2009Approximately 122,000 households in Ealing will be given a one-off payment of £50. To Qualify, the households must have been liable to pay council tax between 1 October 2009 and 13 November 2009.
Residents who pay by direct debit will receive the £50 cash back directly into their bank account.
People who pay by other methods will be able to claim their £50 at any post office by presenting a letter with a unique barcode and relevant identification.
Councillor Jason Stacey, Leader of Ealing Council, said: "I know that many families in the borough are finding things tough at the moment financially and this is why Ealing Council set a 0% increase in council tax this year.
"However, thanks to prudent financial management, there was also scope to do a little more. That is why every eligible household will receive the same £50 payment, timed to coincide with the run up to Christmas, when extra cash is always handy to have."
"I am also urging residents to take full advantage of the council's Spend Local campaign, which offers a range of discounts and deals at participating businesses. At this present time, more than 250 businesses across the borough have signed up to take part in Spend Local. From hairdressers to hotels, pet shops to patisseries, and food shops to fashion stores, there is something for everyone."
The cash back proposal was approved at full council in July 2009.If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
