Humble pie on the menu for Hanwell pizza company
Fri 11 Dec 2009Karim Payman, of Thorncliffe Road, Southall, pleaded guilty at Ealing Magistrates’ Court to eight counts of failing in his duty of care to ensure waste from Hanwell Pizza was disposed of correctly.
An investigation by the Ealing Council's Envirocrime officers found pizza boxes, receipts, leftover food and other waste dumped just meters from the shop.
Councillor Sue Emment, Cabinet Member for Environment and Street Services, said: "Business owners and managers must take responsibility for making sure they and their staff dispose of their rubbish correctly."
"I hope this will act as a warning to other companies that we will not tolerate traders who don’t make sure their waste is disposed of correctly."
Mr Payman will now have to pay a £500 fine, plus the council's costs of £818.
He has now bought pre-paid commercial waste sacks from the council so he can now dispose of his business' waste responsibly. If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
