Hefty fine for unauthorised extension

Thu 08 Apr 2010
A Southall woman will have to pay more than £3,000 after building an extension without planning permission.

In July 2008 Asha Soba, of Derley Road, Southall, was served with an enforcement notice after she built a conservatory on the back of her house without planning permission.

She challenged the notice, but her appeal was turned down.

Soba appeared before Ealing Magistrates, on Thursday 25 March 2010, where she pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the notice.

She was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay the council’s court costs of £1,073. She will also have to remove the conservatory.

Noel Rutherford, Director of Built Environment, said: "If people build without planning permission we will take enforcement action."

"We’ve brought several prosecutions already this year and I hope this sends a strong message to other people who would consider building without planning permission."
