Southall factory worker jailed for life

A Southall factory worker who stabbed his colleague to death following a car parking row was jailed for life.

Balraj Singh, 44, of Telford, Shropshire was found guilty of murdering Gurmukh Singh Chahal, 42, in April 2010. The murder occurred at Mac Engineering on the Bridge Road Industrial Estate in Southall, where they worked.

When he saw Gurmukh Chahal near his car, he confronted him with a kitchen knife and stabbed him in the chest.

In court Balraj Singh claimed he was just trying to protect himself.

Singh was sentenced to life-time imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 20 years.

Weeks prior to the death, they were friends until an argument about the safety of Singh’s car in the factory car park.
