Improved ladies gym at Southall sports centre
Sun 12 Jun 2011Female members can enjoy state of the art gym facilities, weekly exercise classes and a number of sports programmes in the privacy of the new gym. The Muslim Women’s Sports Foundation will also be delivering ladies’ sports sessions from the new premises.
The £150,000 project received £75,000 from the London Marathon Trust and was match-funded by the council.
Council Leader, Councillor Julian Bell, said: "This new facility is a great opportunity for women who may not be comfortable using a mixed gender gym, taking the opportunity to take part in exercise and sport in a private environment."
This is not a totally new ladies only gym. A smaller ladies gym already existed next to the much bigger men’s gym. This was extended and refurbished with new machines.
Some narrow minded people would call it a gym where "men are not welcome".
A sauna for ladies only would be classified as a sauna where "men are not welcome".
Female wards in hospitals, the goal of various governments, would be classified by the same narrow minded people as a hospital ward where "men are not welcome".
Sensible open minded people would call it separate facilities for the sexes, where they feel far more at ease.If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
