Want to carry the Olympic torch?
Mon 04 Jul 2011On July 24, 2012, the world-famous torch will stop-over in Ealing on its way to the opening ceremony at the Olympic Stadium just three days later.
Two local people will get to carry it during part of its passage through the borough.
Residents who want to have a chance of being selected as one of the two torch-carriers need to register on the Council's website.
Hundreds of hopeful volunteers are being interviewed for positions as Olympic Ambassadors at the Ealing Community Resource Centre.
The interviews have taken place over a five week period with around 100 potential volunteers being interviewed per day.
London Ambassadors, who are being chosen from across London, will welcome visitors from all over the world during the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Organisers are looking for around 8,000 volunteers to be the face of London. Council Leader, Councillor Julian Bell, said: "Volunteering at an event as big as the Olympics will be a once in a lifetime experience and an opportunity to meet people from around the world."
Lizzie Saunders, Ealing Volunteer Centre Manager, said: "The Olympics will be a once in a lifetime experience for Londoners and a great opportunity to showcase the amazing contribution volunteers make to life in the capital."If you have a local news story, share it with the rest of Southall, by using the contact form.
