Greenfields gets outstanding result

Tue 11 Oct 2011
Greenfields Children's Centre, Southall, has received three glowing reports from Ofsted.

Over a two-week period in the summer three separate inspections took place. They looked at the quality of the day care, the nursery school and how well the centre worked with families and the local community.

The centre was judged to be outstanding on each aspect of their work. This is the highest ranking that can be achieved.

The centre was opened in October 2008 and serves one of the most deprived wards in the country.

It provides a range of services including full day care from birth until five years, a nursery school for over-threes, family learning and support, support for local childminders and community services, such as a toy library and health checks and workshops.

Commenting on the effectiveness of the centre, Ofsted said: "Everyone who uses the centre feels a part of it. Not only do the users contribute fully to decision-making but they were fully involved in designing the building, which now reflects the different cultures in the community and was described as ‘a place of sanctuary’ during the inspection."

June McHugh, Head of Greenfields Children’s Centre, said: “Everyone who works at Greenfields is passionate about what they do, and this is reflected in these outstanding reports.

"I believe that our work makes a crucial difference to the lives of children, their families and the local community and it is gratifying to see our achievements recognised in this way."

Councillor Patricia Walker, cabinet member for Children and Young People, said: "Congratulations to everyone involved in making Greenfields such a success. It is one of several children’s centres in Ealing to achieve this grade and I am grateful that we have such a talented group of professionals working with our local families."
